About This Class
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a safe and effective method of aiding in relaxation of muscle groups and blocking pain. TENS units are often used in labor with mothers who have back pain due to the position of the baby.
Physical therapists and other health care providers also frequently use TENS units for numerous conditions such as chronic pain and muscle injury.
This TENS class will provide you with a basic understanding and practical application of the use of TENS units. By the end of this class, you should be able to discuss the use of the TENS unit in labor and birth, identify the advantages of using the TENS unit during labor, and describe DONA’s guidelines for use of the TENS unit.
This class is approved by DONA for 3 continuing education hours as an advanced doula educational class. (DONA Program Number: 730-618R)
The Academy of Certified Birth Educators (ACBE) does not certify persons in the use of TENS for medical purposes and does not accept responsibility or liability for use of a TENS unit by anyone attending this class.
