ACBE's Breastfeeding Education class is designed for aspiring doulas and healthcare professionals, and fulfills DONA International's Breastfeeding Education requirement for birth doula certification.
As a participant in Breastfeeding Education, you will learn how to help mothers and babies initiate breastfeeding as a doula/care provider. Class participants discuss the many benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and babies, as well as how to approach breastfeeding challenges with new mothers. Class topics include the anatomy of the breast, challenges and benefits of breastfeeding, different feeding styles, lactation support, and latch techniques (including Baby-Led Latch). By the end of the class, you will be able to describe the anatomy of the breast and identify birth practices that are either supportive or harmful to breastfeeding, and discuss the doula’s role in assisting with postpartum breastfeeding support.
Breastfeeding Education meets the 3-hour Breastfeeding Education requirement for birth doula certification through DONA International and is approved by DONA for 3.0 CEUs.
