DONA International Approved Birth Doula Workshop
A Birth Doula Training Workshop Program

This program is designed to provide the participant with the skills necessary to become a birth doula or labor support professional. The three day program will enhance the participant's knowledge in the area of anatomy and physiology, terminology, the labor and birth process, postpartum, and the newborn.

Participants will learn how to assist their clients in developing a birth plan, including methods of pain relief, comfort measures, and unexpected outcomes, such as cesarean birth. Birth Doula Training Workshop Workshop

The emotional and psychological aspects associated with labor and birth, along with appropriate cultural practices, will be discussed.

Participants will learn, through role-play, how to assist clients with difficult labors and births and empower the woman and her partner to cope with complications.

The birth doula's scope of practice and ethical standards will be discussed, as well as the criteria to become a certified birth doula through DONA (Doulas of North America).

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the difference between the roles of the midwife, doctor, nurse, partner, and doula when attending the birth
  2. Verbalize the impact of birth on a woman's life
  3. Define the components of the initial contact and home visit with the client
  4. List the six signs of progress in labor
  5. Define the emotional stress points in labor
  6. Demonstrate two comfort measures to use in the hospital setting
  7. Describe the doula's role during a complicated birth
  8. Describe the events of a cesarean birth
  9. Demonstrate the roving body check
  10. Explain the importance of the postpartum follow-up and closure

Tuition is $375.00. A non-refundable course deposit of $100.00 is due at the time of registration. Remaining balance due 21 days prior to the first day of the workshop. A $25 discount is applied if paid 21 days prior to workshop.
