WHO WE ARE

The Academy of Certified Birth Educators Inc., ACBE, is an organization dedicated to providing education and skills for professionals who wish to become certified childbirth educators or trained birth doulas.

The Academy was founded by certified childbirth educators and certified doulas whose goals are to actively involve parents in the prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum periods, to enhance the childbirth experience by achieving their goals, and to foster the professional relationships between parents, health care professionals, hospitals, birth centers, and home birth practices.

The Academy offers educational seminars which include a certified childbirth education course, B.A.B.E., and the Birth Doula Training course.   The B.A.B.E. course is a three day seminar which provides background information in the areas of pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, adult education, group dynamics, nutrition, pain theory, sibling preparation, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and marketing along with practical application of essential skills necessary to become a certified childbirth educator.

The Birth Doula Training, also a three day seminar, provides information on pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, the newborn, pain medications and pain theory, breastfeeding and bottle feeding, along with practical essential skills necessary to become a trained birth doula.  The Birth Doula Training course meets DONA International’s requirement for the birth doula training certification program.
